At one time in history a cross represented cruelty, pain, sorrow, shame, and the worst of humanity. The Romans wanted the cross to strike fear into people's heart. It was easier to control the masses when horrific death scenes were on display. It was during 4th century that the Cross became a symbol of hope and redemption rather than one of death. Although the death that Jesus suffered on the Cross that day two thousand years ago was horrid and unimaginable, today all across the globe the Cross is beacon to all those who are in need of hope, restoration, and life. Today there is a Joy in the Cross. No more shame. No more pain, sorrow, or death!
