Digging ditches is all about having faith in the God who has never let us down. Not letting us down doesn’t mean that God always gives us what we want, when we want it but He is always there right on time. We must have faith, anticipate, have realization in advance when God speaks. When God speaks we act, even before we can see the “rain” we start digging the ditches. If we truly want to see God move in our lives it is time we start digging the ditches in anticipation of His move.
The prophet Elisha was asked to come and inquire of God what the Kings of Israel, Judah and Edom needed to do about the King of Moab who was taking up arms against them. They had travel for 7 days and were without water for themselves and the livestock with them. However, the King of Israel who was a wicked King wanted what he wanted when he wanted it but the King of Judah, Jehoshaphat, want whatever God wanted. The prophet only gave the king of Israel the time of day because of Jehoshaphat, because He was a godly man seeking what God wants.
When the prophet spoke and told them to dig ditches in anticipation of God filling them up with water that they needed it didn’t really make sense because that was not what they asked for. They asked for victory against their enemies but God knew what they needed better than they did. To defeat their enemy “was a small task” for the Lord.
When we get sidetracked with the cares of our life, inquire of God what He wants and not what we want and in faith start digging the ditches before the answer even get here! That is what faith is all about. It’s time to start digging ditches.
