Fruit of a tree is the evidence that a tree is what it was created to be. The Fruit of the Spirit in our life is the evidence that we are the Sons and Daughters of God. Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Gentleness, Self-Control, Faithfulness, and Goodness are all to be an evidence in and through our lives. Why? Because the Holy Spirit of God has taken up His residence in our Spirit and we now walk in the Spirit and because we do we simply do not carry out the lust of the flesh. Many Christians get it backwards and believe if they don't carry out the lust of the flesh they'll walk in the Spirit. The Fruit of the Spirit is the by product of walking in the Spirit. Over the next nine weeks we will talk about what each fruit represents in our life.

Life can get a little difficult at times, to say the least.  Life can get crazy with all kinds of twists and turns that leaves you with an unsettled feeling like you don't know what to do next.  It can get you off kilter to a place that you don't know what's up or down, what's right or what's wrong.  That's where a fixed point of reference comes in to play, your true north.  Most people in today's cultural simply flow with the waves and tossing of the cultural sea.  Jesus, is our true north.  He said of Himself over 2000 years ago that He was THE Way, THE Truth, and THE Life.  He was as relevant then as He is now.  He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  He never changes.  We can build our life on Him and know that He will always be there, our true north, our fixed point of reference in this crazy, mixed up, chaotic world we find ourself in.

This wasn't some nicety that Jesus said while He was here on this earth it was a declaration of who He was.  Since the dawn of mankind Satan has been lying to humanity to keep them in bondage.  He lied in the Garden by telling Adam and Eve that they were not like God.  What he didn't tell them was if they ate of the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil then they would then become like him, having the propensity of sin and the most vial act of sin within their very nature.  He has stopped since then telling his lies.  He saying the same thing just in a different way.  However, the Ancient truths that are set in eternity by the hand of God still stand today, no matter what lies are being told.

We live in a crazy world of uncertainty.  However, so did the prophet Elijah in the Old Testament times.  The nation of Israel was in conflict, they were experiencing a three year drought through out the entire nation, people where starving, and hedonism was at an all time high.  Sound familiar?  Amidst all the chaos and uncertainty Elijah knew his and the nation of Israel's true chance of survival depended on the rock solid foundation of what God said.  His Word.  Even in today's current chaotic climate we have a rock solid foundation in God's Word.  Not just His written word, the Bible, but what He speaks to us.  That will sure up our foundation.
